Class Description: Dive into the captivating world of plying yarn with Alyssa F. Plying is the process that adds strength, texture, and character to your handspun yarn, and this class will equip you with the skills to elevate your spinning game.

During this session, you will explore the different plying techniques, including two-ply, three-ply, and specialty plying methods. We’ll discuss how to choose the right spinning direction, as well as tips for managing tension and achieving an even twist.

Even though this session is participation optional, hands-on practice will be a key component for participants. You'll also discover how to blend colors and fibers for stunning results.

By the end of the class, you'll have a deeper understanding of plying and the confidence to apply these techniques to your own spinning projects. Bring your spun singles and your spinning wheel or spindle, and get ready to transform your yarn into something extraordinary!

Lazy Kates will be helpful, but an empty bobbin will be required for wheel spinners. Drop spinners will need an empty drop spindle to spin onto; drop spindles will be available for purchase.

Alyssa F.

I’ve been hooked on fiber crafts since I learned to crochet at 14, and my passion has only grown! By 22, I was spinning my own yarn, and a year later, I dove into dyeing and processing fiber. At 25, I picked up knitting, completing my fiber journey. I’m always up for learning new techniques and taking on creative challenges. If it involves yarn, fiber, or needles, I’m in!

As a mom of 5, I started crocheting and knitting to outfit my babies. As they grew, I was completely hooked on yarn crafts and discovered the deep rabbit hole of different patterns and got addicted to sock knitting. My knitting motto is:  "Anything is possible, it is all just one stitch at a time!"

My mother is what you would call a "handy maker" and as a young child I was fascinated by what she was doing. I guess I got "in her face" once too often because by the time I was five she had stuck a crochet hook in my hands. That was the beginning of my life as a creative; you could say I was "hooked".
